One night I was with a close friend watching a Nietzsche documentary and observing the obstacle courses he endured through his lifetime, how he experienced life, how he documented his personal process and it all seemed so painful. I told my friend that Nietzsche tortured himself over things we already know- my friend corrected me in my ignorance and told me the following:
I wouldn't be able to understand the trial and tribulations that I do, the way I do, and at the age I do because there were people before our time literally hiking mountains to know themselves. Pushing themselves to physical extremes without technology and nothing but their body, an ink and some paper.
This wake-up call enhanced my craving for people to get the credit they deserve. Always credit your sources. This is something I get sensitive about being an agent to content creators and friend to many artists. Crediting people for their work is acknowledging their contribution to the influence they've had on you. Large or small, give the fucking credit. This is a gift that keeps on giving whether you're aware of it or not because it will help people that actually care to do the research on the lineage of their passions.
Yes, we are 100% the new wave. But we would not be the new wave without the generations upon generations before us putting that work in. It used to take people an entire lifetime to learn lessons that we learn in 3 years or less now. We subconsciously inherit knowledge in forms that resonate with us, but to become aware of what inspires you and credit is vital in the age of the *influencer*.
So the next time you share a meme (which are often hard to credit the creator of unless watermarked in a strategically, impossible-to-crop-out way), remember that someone had climb a mountain, suffer a lot longer if not a lifetime, to come to the same realizations that are harnessed in a few characters in form that can be DMed into your friends' inbox on Instagram. We are blessed in a sense- a lot of work has been done for us, but a lot of information has been deceivingly delivered for hundreds of years.
Since I last wrote, the United States has been shook by the presidential election. To be honest I never gave a fuck who won, but now that Trump has, this is even further proof that things are changing and we're in charge of how we move forward together. It's up to us to properly deliver new ways so the generations after us do not get misinformed and can live much more liberated, happy lives where they know their magic.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Living is a collective effort. Once you realize that we are all extensions of one another and approach life with a little more compassion, things will fall properly into place.
Some of you still need to pick up a few books though, low-key. LOVE YOU, MEME IT.
And yes, ALL MEMES ARE CLICKABLE TO MY PERSONAL SOURCES. XO BITCHES
